Summer Kids Programs

Early American Summer Days combines 19th century history with 21st century fun! Designed for ages 7-12, all sessions give children who have completed grades 1-5 a glimpse into the museum’s historical spaces and an opportunity to do themed activities and craft projects.

STEM & Archaeology - Tuesday, July 30, 9:30am -3:30pm
Participants will “dig” into the scientific method through the field of archeology. A series of hands-on activities will guide children through 19^th science, technology, engineering and math themes with historical information infused throughout the day. This session will include an exploration of tools, paleontology, and more.

Toys & Games - Wednesday, July 31, 9:30am -3:30pm
Kids living on a farm during the 19th century did a lot of hard work but they also made time to play games like town ball and marbles. Have fun like they would have and make early New England-inspired toys to take home and participate in the “Narrow Sea Regatta,” a popular tradition of racing toy boats against fellow participants and teen counselors.

Homestead on the Farm - Thursday, August 1, 9:30am -3:30pm
Discover 19th century life on the homestead, dressing in 19th century clothing and living a day in the life of a 19th century family. Get a taste of how Johnny Cakes were made over the hearth fire, visit the Blacksmith shop, learn how to churn butter and dip candles, and meet livestock and other animals that would have lived on the family farm with you.

Nature & Art - Friday, August 2, 9:30am -3:30pm
Celebrate earth, nature and the change of seasons. Learn how a child may have experienced nature and art in 19th century New England. Visit the Village gardens, plant-a-seed to take home, make coil pottery, and end the afternoon with a cool, homemade ice cream treat with pure New England Maple syrup (non-dairy alternative available).

Program Details

Choose your own 19th century adventure with the return of Storrowton Village Museum's Early American Summer Days program.

Children can attend all four days for $199, three days for $159, two days for $119 or a single full day for $60.
Children must bring a lunch (full day sessions and morning half-day). Refrigeration is provided.
Each of the previous sessions must have a minimum of 10 children registered by 7/12/2024 to run. Maximum session size caps at 40 children.
Children will dress in 19th century costume as part of the program experience for Homestead on the Farm and Nature & Art. All programs require that children attend wearing close-toed shoes.
Enrollment is not complete until payment in full is received. Your space will not be held without payment. If a session does not reach minimum enrollment, registration can be transferred to another session with available space or a full refund will be issued. No other refunds will be issued. If a child is not able to attend for an extenuating reason, enrollment may be transferred to another program or participant. Refunds will be mailed to the address on file and may take up to three weeks to process.
Up-to-date physical including vaccinations records required (COVID vaccine optional).
