Blacksmith Collective is a rain or shine event.

Are you a fan of the television show “Forged in Fire” or the Minecraft video game? Come to Storrowton Village Museum May 12 for an exciting new event called Blacksmith Collective.

The event offers visitors an interactive look at the trade and artistry of blacksmithing in New England from the 17th to 21st century. The day will be filled with demonstrations in the busy Clark Blacksmith Shop and on the Village green by visiting smiths from throughout New England.

Visitors will be able to talk with smiths about their tools, techniques and traditions as they work at their forges. The event is suitable for all ages -- adults will get a practical view of the art and craftsmanship of the trade while the children’s activity area provides a hands-on look at the tools and toys made by blacksmiths as well as a clay molding activity that teaches the science behind molding metal.

Storrowton Tavern will offer $12 boxed lunches as a grab-and-go option as well as a regular meal service. Boxed lunches will include a sandwich, bag of chips, fresh fruit, two homemade cookies,a granola bar and condiments. The Shops at Storrowton will be open and smiths will offer items for sale. Visitors can also purchase tickets for a raffle of hand-forged items, with 100% of proceeds to benefit Storrowton Museum’s education programs. Winners must be present to receive prizes that will be drawn hourly.

Special guests include the 3rd Massachusetts George Washington Continental Army Unit reenactment group, leading demonstrations and discussions on the role of blacksmithing during the American Revolution.

Date: 5/12/18 from 11am to 4pm
