Helen's Hearth: Living History for Life

Registration closes when program is filled or on July 9, 2027

Limited to 10 participants
Inspired by Helen O. Storrow's belief in the potential of young people, Helen's Hearth invites students who have completed grades 5-8 to gather around the traditions of the past to build the confidence, character, and life skills they need for the future. Through hands-on living history, open-hearth cooking, teamwork, and leadership activities, participants discover that some of life's most valuable lessons are timeless.

9am - Daily check-in
9:30am - Open hearth cooking
11:45am - Lunch
12:30pm - Leadership & Skill-building activities
1:30pm - Afternoon break
1:45pm - Service activities & daily debrief
3pm - Pick-up*

Helen O. Storrow was a strong advocate for youth development, civic responsibility, and leadership opportunities, particularly through her longstanding support of organizations like the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and other educational initiatives. The Helen's Hearth Program seeks to engage emerging leaders with Storrow's philosophy of helping young people become capable, engaged citizens.

*On the final day of the program family and friends are invited to visit the Village for an end of program celebration at 2:15pm.

Program Details

  • Helen's Hearth is a 4-day program for $225. 20% discount for anyone registered by 12/31/2026.
  • Lunch provided, however children are welcome to bring lunch from home. Refrigeration is not provided.
  • Maximum of 10 participants. A waitlist will be available when capacity is reached.
  • Helen's Hearth requires that children attend wearing close-toed shoes and pants. Morning sessions will all include open hearth cooking. Children are welcome to bring a change of clothes and open-toed footwear for afternoon sessions. Some service sessions will require pants and closed toed shoes depending on the nature of the project.
  • Your registration grants us permission to use children's images for Marketing and promotion purposes. Explicit written notice must be sent to the Museum or Program director if you do not want your child included in Marketing images.
  • Enrollment is not complete until payment in full is received. Your space will not be held without payment. No refunds will be issued. If a child is not able to attend for an extenuating reason, enrollment may be transferred to another program or participant.
  • Up-to-date physical including vaccinations records required (COVID and flu vaccines optional, all other standard vaccines required).
