Summer Sampler

Storrowton Village Museum’s Summer Sampler marks the start of Storrowton’s summer season with free tours of the museum spaces on June 11, 2022. Visitors can opt in to hands-on workshops for a nominal fee or enjoy watching free trade demonstrations and talking with costumed guides throughout the museum.

The family-friendly day will feature hands-on activities that give a sampling of all the fun the Village offers year-round. Additional demonstrations include blacksmithing in the Clark Blacksmith Shop and open hearth cooking in the Gilbert Farmhouse. Admission is free and hours are from 10-3pm.

Visitors are encouraged to register ahead for workshops by purchasing tickets below:

Kids Craft Sampler $5 per person - All ages welcome
Learn about the hands-on 19th century activities we teach to 21st century kids! The Kids Craft Sampler is 20-30 minutes and begins on the hour throughout the day at the Gazebo on the Village Green. Weave a basket to take home, try out quill pen writing and wool spinning, and conclude with playing 19th century games.
Garden Workshop $15 per person - All ages welcome
What household plants were used for dying fabrics? Are these still used today? Learn about plants used for textiles and dye your own yarn to take home. Modern and traditional techniques will be taught and an in-depth tour of the garden will be included in this activity. Participate on your own or as a pair for the same price!

Blacksmith Apprentice Experience $25 per person - Ages 12+

Try your hand at a variety of duties blacksmith apprentices would have performed from maintaining the fire to swinging a hammer and all the work in between during this 1-hour experience in the Clark Blacksmith Shop. Receive a one-of-a-kind, hand forged hook, a traditional blacksmith cap, and make your own horse shoe nail ring. Be sure you pay attention and respect the knowledge of the master blacksmith or you may find yourself hauling water, emptying coal buckets, or tiring your arms keeping the bellows pumping!
